What We Are
Founded in 2010, Kingston Animal Rescue is a volunteer-run no-kill animal rescue group. We rescue and find forever homes for animals in need. Kingston Animal Rescue is a registered charity.
Using a network of foster homes, we take in animals that have run out of time at local animal shelters, and assist in emergency rescue or disaster situations. Upon arrival in our care they are spayed or neutered and moved into the care of one of our loving foster homes.
As a “no-kill” rescue, our animals stay in foster homes until they are adopted. We also work to educate the public on the proper care and treatment of animals as well as the pet overpopulation crisis and the importance of spaying/neutering and adoption.
Mission Statement
To end the suffering of animals with rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, and education.
Our Goals
- To rescue, rehabilitate and find suitable adoptive homes for animals in need
- To provide emergency animal rescue and disaster response services when possible
- To end the euthanasia of adoptable animals in shelters by educating the public and reducing the numbers of unwanted animals using sterilization and campaigns
- To promote and educate the public about the humane and proper care and treatment of animals (including the importance of spay/neuter), and the importance of adopting
- To partner, assist, and work together with other animal organizations, shelters, individuals, and communities to accomplish joint goals and prevent and end the suffering of animals
How we do it
We’re starting small – literally!
Our priority is to take in pocket pets like rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, gerbils, mice, hedgehogs, ferrets, and others. We occasionally take in cats and dogs when resources allow.
We focus on "last chance" animals - animals that are at high risk of euthanasia or those that would otherwise be at risk without our help. We do not accept owner surrendered animals.
While in our care:
- All animals are medically assessed and receive proper veterinary care
- All animals are assessed for temperament and personality – those needing rehabilitation are placed in appropriate foster homes
- All rabbits, cats and dogs are spayed or neutered
- All cats and dogs are fully vaccinated, treated for fleas, dewormed and microchipped
- Adoptable animals are promoted on our website, Facebook, Kijiji and Petfinder
- We thoroughly screen all adoption applicants and only place our animals in loving forever homes
Using media interviews, pamphlets, articles, classroom talks and public events we educate the public about animal issues such as:
- Proper care and treatment
- The pet overpopulation crisis
- The need to and benefits of spaying and neutering, especially for rabbits
- The importance of adoption
We partner with like-minded organizations to raise awareness about animal welfare issues with the ultimate goal of ending the suffering of animals.
