To the north and west, Ontario’s largest former township is now also part of the city. At 204.6 square kilometres (population 40,000), it is predicted to double in size in the next few years. Featuring a suburban character, with over 35 parks, extensive shopping and a significant industrial base. Facilities and attractions: Norman Rogers Municipal Airport and many sports and recreation centres.

Petronella Place: Located east of Frontenac Mall, Petronella is a little oasis in the centre of a thriving city. Mostly upscale semi-detached homes, with some backing onto the conservation area. Even though building only began in the mid-1990s and is now complete, it’s apparent that the builder was after a more old-fashioned look to the neighbourhood. Each home has its own unique appearance, many with walkout basements. Average price is around $155,000. Residents here are close to the Frontenac Mall and many other conveniences on Bath Road.

Meadowbrooke: On the other side of Frontenac Mall, Meadowbrooke is a mix of entry-level apartment-style condominiums, semi-detached homes, townhouses and high-end properties listing at around $250,000. There’s a price for everyone, with condos starting in the $55,000 range. The first houses were built in the mid-1980s in this subdivision close to the Frontenac Mall, schools and bus routes. Kingsdale Chateaus, a retirement home offering a range of different living styles, is also located here.

Reddendale: Between Lake Ontario and Front Road, 70s and 80s bungalows on Point Pleasant and Lakeland Point mingle with executive-style houses added along Lakeshore Boulevard and Wartman Avenue. Building in some areas started in the late 1940s. A quiet neighbourhood, with several parks. Facilities and attractions: Centre 70 skating arena, Reddendale Plaza, medical centre, retirement complex and the area firehall. Prices in the $140,000 range.

Conservatory Pond: This exclusive neighbourhood offers an enclave of single family homes where there is something for everyone. Super starter singles, priced from $152,400, with luxury and custom-built homes not far away. Many of the sites back onto a natural water pond. Close to Lemoine Point and Lake Ontario, this community is located just off Bayridge Drive behind the No Frills grocery store. Residents are within minutes of schools, recreation centres and a major shopping district. Building is ongoing.

Henderson Place: Population 3,700, early 1950s-70s houses with upgraded services. Bounded by Days Road, Bath Road, the Bayridge Extension and Henderson Boulevard. Average price of homes is about $130,000. New development near the quarry. Facilities and attractions: Secondary and public schools, soccer and baseball parks and the Rio Can Centre, a thriving new shopping complex in the city’s west end.
King’s Landing: This adult lifestyle community is into its second phase of building with a wide range of single-family, townhomes and semi-detached houses for sale. Singles start at $173,800. Many oversized lots are available for custom-built homes. Minutes from Costco and Chapters, residents also have easy access to bus service, grocery stores and the Cataraqui Town Centre.

Bayridge: A sprawling community bounded by Bath Road, Taylor Kidd Boulevard and Gardiners Road. Started in the 1970s, with building continuing today, Bayridge is a mix of single-family and executive homes. Facilities and attractions: a secondary school, public schools, churches, sports complex, outdoor tennis courts, sports fields. Townhomes priced at about $105,000 with higher end properties in the $250,000 to $300,000 range.

Lyndenwood: Building is set to continue well into the future in this community behind Chapter’s Book Store on Princess Street. A mix of single-family, bungalows and two-storey homes, construction on the next phase of single-family homes starts officially in the spring. General price range is from $160,000 to $250,000; higher for custom-built homes. Close to all conveniences. The developer expects the community to have its own schools sometime in the future.

Sutton Mills: East of Bayridge Drive, 294 hectares developed in the 1970s; population 4,750. Single-family, semi-detached and multiple-resident dwellings. Several retirement homes. Facilities and attractions: Cataraqui Town Centre, Rio Can Centre, Cineplex Odeon theatres, a separate school and 11.5 hectares of parks. Prices between $140,000 and $225,000.

Cataraqui Woods: This established neighbourhood continues to grow with a new line of single-family homes for young families and first-time homebuyers. Prices start at $143,300. Residents are within walking distance of Cataraqui Town Centre, a market-style Loblaws and Bayridge Plaza.

Shires Way: Located in Waterloo Village, a community bounded by Princess Street, Gardiners Road and Taylor Kidd Boulevard. An enclave of mostly two-bedroom, single and semi-detached homes, all built on one crescent. Ideal for first-time buyers or families looking to downsize. Close to both the RioCan and Cataraqui Town centres. Prices start at $139,500.

Heritage Court: Across the road from Shires Way. Family homes start at $153,500, with some houses backing onto Trillium Ridge Park. A new elementary separate school is set to be built in the next couple of years.

Cobblestone Ridge: A community of single-family homes located at Taylor Kidd Boulevard and Waterloo Drive. Building began in 2000 and is ongoing with two-storey homes and bungalows starting at $182,900. Some homes back onto a ridge of trees. Easy access to the 401 and popular shopping centres.

Walnut Grove: This brand new adult-lifestyle development offers a wide range of styles, including bungalows, semi-detached and townhomes. A quiet enclave in the area of Princess Street and Sydenham Road, prices start at $167,400. A private clubhouse and easy access to both West End and downtown shopping districts.
